D.C. Special Police Officer Found Fatally Shot on Duty

The Metro Special Police Department officer was discovered unconscious and not breathing with a gunshot wound in southeast Washington, D.C.

An officer with the Metro Special Police Department in Washington, D.C., was found fatally shot on duty Tuesday.

The unidentified officer was discovered with a gunshot wound just after 8:30 p.m. in southeast D.C., WTTG-TV reports. She was unconscious and not breathing when Metro D.C. officers reached the scene.

"Our hearts are broken to learn of the news about a line of duty death in the District," the Metro Special Police Department said in a statement. "MSPD sends its sincere condolences and prayers to the family, friends, and agency of the special police officer who was killed in the line of duty last night protecting and serving her community."

No suspects have been arrested in the shooting. A $25,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.

"This is unfortunate," D.C. Police Chief Rober Contee said at news conference Tuesday. "My heart goes out to the family to this special police officer."
